Recall a situation in which you were offered a suggestion, advice, or criticism and you reacted defensively.

What caused your reaction? 
        -I felt degraded by their tone manner of speech and the topic issues.
What attributions did you make about the other person’s communication? 
        -That they accusing in their suggestion that what I was doing was wrong when it was just our diversity.
What were the interpersonal out-comes of your defensive communication?         
           -People get defensive against other defensive commication directed towards them.
How could you have prevented a defensive response?
           -By using a more calm and leveled head and putting myself into their shoes.

Yes I do think it is important to monitor according to the conext of the situation so as to not make new people feel uncomfortable.
